New Projects

Project #1   Knitting & Crocheting.

When I was a kid my mom always tried to get me and my sisters to learn how to knit & crochet. We thought it was boring granny stuff. We complained & eventually my mom gave up on trying to teach us. Now at the age of 26, I wished I would've of learned when someone was willing to teach me. I kept telling myself I want to learn to do this, but hadn't really done anything about it until this weekend. I went to Borders this weekend and was looking at the craft books when I saw a cute book( shown above). It has cute crocheted ninjas, zombies, vampires and more. I just learned that this all the new rage in indie craft right now. It's called amigurumi. I didn't buy the book. The reason being, I took one peek at the instructions and said WTH! There was all this crochet lingo that I didn't understand. It looked impossible. I still want to make this one day, but first I need to learn the basics. I went to the Library and checked out The Complete Idiot's Guide to Knitting & Crocheting. I picked up some tools and I'm teaching myself to knit & crochet. I really like this book. It makes it easy to understand the stitches and tells you all about the different yarns, needles and extra tools. I working on a simple scarf right now. Holding the needles still feels a little awkward, but I think I got the stitching down. I hope to be making everyone's Christmas sweaters this year:) Just kidding!

Project #2   Growing a Garden on our Balcony

Spring is here. Time to grow some veggies. Ben & I are big fans of organic heirloom tomatoes which are pricy in stores. So we decided to grow our own this year. Our Balcony gets alot of sun so it's the perfect place to grow them. Ben is especially excited. We are also going to grow organic cilantro. Salsa anyone?   Being the girl that I am I can't have a garden without flowers! So I'm also going to grow Dahlias. We plan to plant the seeds this weekend. Can't wait.
